OSPEDALE REGINA APOSTOLORUM

REFURBISHMENT OF THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL

OSPEDALE REGINA APOSTOLORUM

The project

Regina Apostolorum Hospital in Albano Laziale, founded in the 1960s and accredited by the Italian National Health Service, is owned by the Istituto della Pia Società Figlie di San Paolo and managed by Ente Casa Regina Apostolorum. The hospital complex comprises a multi-storey main building connected to smaller buildings. It is an important healthcare centre for the Castelli Romani area and the Lazio region, offering specialist oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and nephrology services. Over the years, we have served as the hospital’s appointed Technical Office, managing and delivering numerous structural and building services projects and providing ongoing support for the facility’s development and functional upgrading.

Departments involved

The refurbishment involved numerous departments across several levels of Regina Apostolorum Hospital. Works covered the private-patient ward, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, paediatrics, dialysis, surgery, urology, general medicine, oncology, intensive care, the clinical laboratory and oncology day hospital. Interventions focused on upgrading building services, reorganising functions and improving care spaces. Dental clinics, the central appointment service (CUP), radiology, endoscopy and cardiology were also renewed, alongside communal areas including the entrance hall, auditorium, entrance canopy and parking. Support services such as the café, staff dining room and kitchen were included, improving the overall welcome and quality of services.

Design

The architectural and building services refurbishment developed by our Technical Office aims to modernise the hospital, improving safety, reliability and energy efficiency. Works include the expansion of healthcare areas and compliance with regional accreditation standards. We designed electrical and specialist systems, air conditioning, ventilation and fire prevention systems. Architectural work focused on optimising space and functionality in harmony with the building services solutions. As the hospital remained operational, the design paid particular attention to continuity of services, user comfort and the quality of care environments, combining efficiency, safety and patient-centred care through an integrated approach.
