NEW TERAMO HOSPITAL
TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE NEW HOSPITAL

The project
The new Teramo Hospital will form a central part of the regional healthcare network, providing multidisciplinary care integrated with local services. Designed to advanced regulatory standards, it will incorporate energy-efficient solutions and accessibility and follow the Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) model. The facility will be delivered through a public–private partnership, using Lean Management to optimise healthcare flows and improve efficiency. The aim is to create a hospital that supports patient wellbeing and contributes to urban regeneration, with a sustainable approach integrated into its surroundings. It is conceived as a multifunctional public place: a vital centre for the area, incorporating retail services, food outlets, parking and direct connections to the railway and metro station. The hospital combines functional and technological quality through close integration of architecture and engineering.
Building services design
The building services design for the new Teramo Hospital provides a complex network of systems arranged in dedicated areas, including the Technology Hub and the second-level services floor. The Technology Hub houses the main cogeneration, electrical, heating and cooling, water and fire protection plant, while the services floor accommodates subsidiary plant rooms for the distribution of energy, fluids and air. Electrical and specialist systems include a medium-voltage distribution network, emergency generators, lighting, smoke detection, security and photovoltaic systems. Mechanical services cover heating, air conditioning, natural gas and medical gases. Water services include cold water, reclaimed water and domestic hot water, with separate rainwater, greywater and foul-water drainage. The medical gas installation meets safety requirements and includes oxygen, medical air, vacuum and anaesthetic gas scavenging systems. The integrated design provides efficiency, safety and long-term flexibility.

The project, up close.
