BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER ARRONE

NEW BRIDGE LINKING VIA ROSPIGLIOSI AND VIA CASTEL SAN GIORGIO

BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER ARRONE

The project

The developed design for the new bridge over the River Arrone responded to the Municipality of Fiumicino’s need to improve road connections between Fregene, Maccarese Lido and Passoscuro and their links to Via Aurelia. The project provided a direct connection between Viale Castel San Giorgio and Viale Rospigliosi, near the historic mill, through a three-span bridge and a new link road incorporating a roundabout on Viale Maria. The new infrastructure will relieve local traffic and improve access to the motorway and main roads, including Via della Muratella Nuova and Via Fontanile di Mezzaluna, facilitating connections with Via Aurelia. The design paid particular attention to structural, geotechnical and seismic considerations and compliance with current technical standards.

Structural and architectural design

The bridge was designed with three spans, including a longer central span, to cross the River Arrone effectively. The main structure consists of precast prestressed concrete beams and an upper concrete deck slab, providing stability, safety and durability. Stiffening elements and seismic devices were included to protect the bridge during earthquakes. Deep-pile foundations ensure reliable support even in weaker ground. The design was developed around two construction phases to simplify execution and reduce delivery time, with the aim of creating safe, efficient infrastructure integrated into its urban surroundings.
